U.S. Donates 1000 ScanEagle Drones to Philippines


P 200 million worth of drones donated by u.s military to the philippines. Philippines will now have further eyes in the skies to safeguard the west philippine sea thanks to the delivery of four scan eagle unmanned aerial systems whoa's, worth P 200 million to the philippine air force by its oldest military partner half. 

The drones were handed over to the philippines by the u.s military on october 13th at the clark air base in Pampanga. The event was especially notable because of clark's history as a former u.s bastion in asia. It also emphasized the philippines and the united states developing ties as the former tries to modernize its military in order to oppose china's military development in the West Philippine Sea.

The scan eagle is a small long endurance low altitude unmanned aerial vehicle who of, used for reconnaissance created by incitu a subsidiary of boeing. Its communication system has a 100 kilometer range. the aircraft can fly for more than 20 hours without landing. The scan eagle was widely employed as an unmanned surveillance craft by the united states.

The device will provide additional capabilities in unmanned intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and in support of counter-terrorism humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts.

The united states donated on wednesday, october 13 P 200 million, four million dollars worth of aerial military devices to the country as part of the its commitment to beef up the armed forces of the philippines AFP. In a ceremony on wednesday at clark air base, Mabalakat, Pampanga the u.s turned over four scaniegle unmanned aerial systems to the philippine air force half. 

According to the AFP the donated equipment would boost the aerial capabilities of the path. These platforms will provide additional capabilities in unmanned intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and in support of counter-terrorism, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts the Philippine military said in a statement thursday october 14.

Charged affairs heather variava commander of the u.s indo-pacific command admiral John Aquilino along with representatives from the u.s embassy in the philippines joint u.s military assistance group led the turnover ceremony. Defense secretary delfin lorenzana and PAF Chief lieutenant general Alan Paridis also joined the event.

"We remain committed to our promises on helping modernize the armed forces of the philippines and we hope this will further strengthen our combined capabilities in working together towards a free and open indo-pacific," variable said during the ceremony as quoted by the AFP. 

Since Lorenzana revived his calls to review the mutual defense treaty, MDT which includes acquisition of more advanced weapons from its longtime ally. The u.s has donated more military assets to the philippines. The NDT is the agreement that binds the military and defense cooperation between the philippines and the U.S.
