Boeing C-40C 'SPAR 19' Nancy Pelosi in Action in Taiwan, Beijing Ready for Battle

The movement of SPAR 19 suddenly became the 'plane' that netizens paid the most attention to in the past few hours. The reason is that the plane carrying the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has angered Beijing, by recklessly visiting Taiwan, to be exact, the 82-year-old politician landed with SPAR 19 at midnight Tuesday (2/8/2022) at the airport. Sungshan in Taipei.

Pelosi's mission to support Taiwan's independence from the start has attracted worldwide attention, because Pelosi's action is certain to provoke a strong reaction from Mainland China. SPAR 19 before landing in Taiwan, departed from Kuala Lumpur, then crossed Indonesian airspace in the Kalimantan area, then turned north (Philippines). From the Philippines, it is reported that SPAR 19 has begun to be escorted by US Navy fighter jets.

Pelosi's action with SPAR 19 last Tuesday was monitored by nearly 300,000 users on the FlightRadar24 website. As predicted, China's response to Pelosi's action was the implementation of a military operation in the Taiwan Strait area, several Chinese Air Force fighter jets were reported to have flown closer to Formosa Island.

SPAR 19 is nothing but an in-flight callsign, while the aircraft used is the Boeing C-40C Clipper number 09-0540 operated by the US Air Force. With the distinctive blue and white livery of "Air Force One", this narrow body aircraft looks like a presidential mini plane.

The Boeing C-40C Clipper is nothing but a military version of the Boeing 737-700 Business Jet. In terms of appearance, the C-40 does not even imply that this is a military aircraft. 'Officially' this aircraft is used for passenger and cargo transportation purposes.

The US Navy uses the C-40A Clipper variant, while the US Air Force uses the C-40B/C variant. So far the US Navy operates at least 15 C-40A units and the US Air Force operates 7 C-40C units.

The Boeing C-40 Clipper is manned by 6 people, consisting of two pilots, one crew chief, one loadmaster and two second loadmasters. The carrying capacity, for passenger configuration (122 people); for cargo 8 pallets; or a combination of 3 pallets with 70 passengers. The total payload that can be carried reaches 18.1 tons.
