KRI Tombak 629 Test Shooting of A-220M Naval Gun 57mm Burevestnik in the Java Sea

The Russian-made defense equipment boomed again in the arsenal of the Indonesian Navy's warships, after the KRI Tombak 629 KCR (Fast Missile Ship) on August 4, 2022 conducted a shooting exercise for the 57mm Burevestnik A-220M naval gun in the Java Sea.

Interestingly enough, the test firing of the A-220M was captured in a short video by the KRI Tombak 629 Instagram account. In a matter of one minute, the cannon on this bow can spit out 300 projectiles. In a combat-ready state, this gun system can carry 400 munitions, some of which are stored below deck.

As a modern fast-reaction gun, the A-220M is controlled in an integrated and fully automated manner, all of which is centralized in the Combat Information Centre. With a dome made of aluminum, the overall gun system weighs 6 tons. This canon is said to be able to fire accurately even though the ship is traveling at a speed of 45 knots, provided the temperature is in the range of -40 to 50 degrees Celsius.

This single-barreled gun made by Burevestnik, Russia has a maximum firing range that is divided into two levels, for vertical barrel angles, especially in the airborne role, the maximum firing range is 8,000 meters.

As for the role of the target opponent on the surface, with a horizontal barrel angle the maximum shooting distance reaches 12,000 meters. Overall, the angle of elevation of the barrel can be moved from -10 to 85 degrees.

In addition to the A-220M 57mm, the KRI Tombak 629 at the stern is fitted with the Chinese-made Norinco NG-18 six-barreled 30mm cannon. Still a non-Western European weapon, KRI Tombak 629 is also equipped with two Yugoimport Naval AD M71/08 20 mm caliber cannons made in Yugoslavia. With non-NATO weapons concoction, the anti-ship missile on KRI Tombak 629 is the C-705 made in China.
