PTS-4: Multipurpose Amphibious Transport Rantis, Built From the Development of PTS-10

PTS-4

The functionality of the Marine Corps PTS-10 class multi-purpose amphibious amphibious amphibious aircraft clearly cannot be used. Having such a large payload with a chain wheel, this rantis is able to bulldoze heavy terrain with ease.

However, the PTS-10 is clearly outdated in terms of age, plus its engine performance is considered wasteful. Because it is included in the doctrine of the Russian Navy's amphibious operations title, now there is the PTS-4 which is a development variant of the PTS-10.

As recently as recently, we saw firsthand the PTS-4 in the 2022 Army, Patriot Expo, and this amphibious fighter is spearheading logistical support in the Russian Navy and Army arsenal. Although the design and dimensions are similar to the PTS-10, the PTS-4 comes in a number of fundamental improvements.

Developed by KTBM, PTS-4 has a hull capable of serving ocean waves at sea state 3 level (up to 1.25 meters). Its main function is no different from the PTS-10, which is to transport artillery, medium-sized trucks, and infantry personnel.

In terms of payload, if PTS-10 'only' can carry a load of 10 tons, then PTS-4 can carry 12 tons on land and 18 tons while wading through water.

Unlike the PTS-10 which is not equipped with armored protection, the PTS-4, especially in the steering crew compartment, is completely resistant to light caliber projectiles and artillery fragments, and it is even said that the crew compartment is equipped with anti-nubic hazard protection.

Recognizing its role as a rantis who will be in the operational area, PTS-4 is equipped with a remote-controlled 12.7 caliber heavy machine gun turret. The position of the weapon is pinned on the commander's roof, and in one go the PTS-4 can carry 400 munitions.

With all the equipment and capabilities, the empty weight of PTS-4 reaches 33.1 tons, as a comparison the empty weight of PTS-10 is 17 tons. With a large weight, this 8.3 meter long rantis requires ideal engine support.

From the specifications, the PTS-4 is powered by a V-84MS multi-fuel turbocharged diesel engine. This is the type of engine that is also used on the Russian T-90 MBT (Main Battle Tank). A number of components in PTS-4 have even taken the T-80 MBT.

The V-84MS diesel engine produces 840 hp. The maximum speed of the PTS-4 on the highway reaches 60 km per hour. Meanwhile, with the support of two waterjets, when in water the PTS-4 can shoot up to 15 km per hour.

With full fuel, the PTS-4 can travel on land up to 600 km, while when wading in water, this amphibious vehicle can operate for 10.5 hours. Another feature in PTS-4 is the availability of a winch that can pull loads up to 15 tons.
