D-Tiger 4×4 – Thailand's Latest MRAP Rantis Ordered Hundreds of Units by the Philippines


In terms of appearance, this armored rantis is similar to the First Win 4×4 (Hanoman) type that was shown by Kopassus (Special Forces Command) in the 74th TNI Anniversary in 2019. And this is the D-Tiger 4×4 which was officially launched. during the Defense & Security 2022 defense exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand on August 29 last.


Quoted from Janes.com, it is stated that the D-Tiger is the first vehicle developed by Thai Defense Industry (TDI), a joint venture company founded by the Thailand Defense Technology Institute (DTI) and Chaiseri in early 2022.

The D-Tiger is a 12.5 tonne armored vehicle with Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAP) capabilities, which is based on the First Win Chaiseri multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). D-Tiger is visually similar to First Win, although the basic specifications are different. 

A DTI spokesman said the D-Tiger also incorporates more locally developed technologies and components and is being developed to meet multiple mission requirements, including command and control operations, as well as infantry combat.

A DTI spokesperson said that the D-Tiger is positioned for the Royal Thai Armed Forces and for export customers, particularly in Southeast Asia. Regarding exports, the Philippines will reportedly buy 200 units of the D-Tiger. For production purposes, these rantis will be built at the Chaiseri factory in Pathum Thani Province, Thailand.

From the specifications, the D-Tiger 4×4 has a maximum payload of 2 tons. This Rantis can carry nine personnel. The kitchen spur adopts a diesel engine with a power of 296 hp, allowing the vehicle to reach speeds of 110 km per hour on paved roads, with a cruising range of 650 km (240 liter fuel tank conditions).


The D-Tiger features STANAG 4569 ballistic protection, and STANAG 4569 Lv3b/4a for mine protection. Run-flat tires allow the vehicle to go about 150 km after a puncture caused by being hit by a projectile.
