The Latest Update, 54 Units of F-35A Lightning II Fighter Jets Jave Arrived in Australia
A total of 72 F-35As ordered by Australia were delivered under Project Air 6000 Phase 2A/2B


Towards a strength posture of 72 F-35A Lightning II, there is the latest news that the Australian Air Force (RAAF) F-35 arsenal has now reached 54 units. 

This follows the arrival of four F-35As at Williamtown Air Force Base, not far from Sydney, New South Wales between 30 August and 2 September 2022.


Quoted from news.defence.gov.au (23/9/2022), the four F-35As traveled (ferry flights) from Luke United States Air Force Base in Arizona with a trans-Pacific stop made at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii. and Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.

During the flight across the Pacific, the four F-35As were supported by the Air Mobility Group which included the presence of the KC-30A (A330 MRTT) tanker aircraft of the No. 33 and the C-17A Globemaster heavy transport aircraft of the No. 36 Australian Air Force. 

Overall, this group of military aircraft crossed the Pacific Ocean as part of Exercise Lightning Ferry 22-3, which has taken place three times this year. The four new F-35As will join the No. Squadron fleet. 77 – No. 81 Wings in Air Combat Group.

Throughout 2022, the Australian Air Force will receive 15 F-35As, and in 2023 the last 9 will be delivered. A total of 72 F-35As ordered by Australia were delivered under Project Air 6000 Phase 2A/2B.


The Australian government targets the optimal level of combat readiness of the F-35A to be achieved in 2022 – 2023. The first batch of F-35A deliveries to Australia took place on December 10, 2018, where the first delivery consisted of two F-35As.
