SpearUAV Viper – Kamikaze Quadcopter Micro Drone With Capsule Launcher Model

SpearUAV Viper – Kamikaze Quadcopter Micro Drone With Capsule Launcher Model

SpearUaV, an unmanned vehicle manufacturer from Israel, is known for its innovation in launching micro-sized quadcopter drones. Call it the Ninox 40 micro drone which is launched from a 40 mm grenade launcher, then there is the Ninox 103, which is also a reconnaissance drone, but designed to be launched from a submarine. And still related to the micro-sized copter drone, this time SpearUAV released what he called the Viper.

Compared to previous SpearUAV products, the Viper is labeled as a micro-tactical loitering munition, which means it is a kamikaze drone. Quoted from Janes.com (6/10/2022), it is said that the Viper is the first encapsulated kamikaze drone.

The Viper is rugged, compact, portable and can be worn or launched on demand, with mission readiness achieved in less than a second, from either a static launch position or on the move.

SpearUAV mentions that the Viper is prepared to be operated by a single user, and the Viper only requires a minimum of training. The payload of day and night vision devices is unified, and the drone is powered by artificial intelligence-based computers for real-time target recognition and tracking, allowing for an intuitive operator user interface and ensuring minimal additional damage to targets.

The Viper Concept provides a range of different calibers, lightweight, modular payload, optionally recoverable, features low acoustic/radar cross-section/thermal signature, folding quadcopter intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance systems.

Each Viper capsule is equipped with an integrated exclusive launch mechanism, and the capsule also acts as a wireless router between the encapsulated drone system and the ground control station. Viper is equipped with Ninox GCS (Ground Control System), which is compatible with Android, Microsoft Windows and Linux devices. The open system architecture integrates seamlessly with the control and command system.

This kamikaze drone has a maximum take-off weight of 1.2 kg. The overall system and capsule weigh only 2.2 kg, and are designed as a tactical and light assault weapon package for infantry personnel.

The Viper is powered by a low-acoustic signature electric engine that uses a lithium ion battery. From the specifications, the Viper has a line of sight communication range of up to 5 km and an endurance of up to 20 minutes.

Standard features on the Viper include dual electro-optical/infrared seeker and tracker; artificial intelligence-aided autonomous target classification; tracking and automatic target recognition; global navigation satellite system and inertial measurement unit-aided autonomous waypoint navigation.

One thing that might have to be noted, although it offers flexibility in its operations, this micro drone cannot carry an adequate payload of warheads, or you can call it the Viper is more suitable for targeting soft targets.
