Australian Army Trains With Robot Dogs From Ghost Robotics

Still remember the robot dog (robot dog) which was named the Special Purpose Unmanned Rifle (SPUR). Expected for the United States military, SPUR is somewhat futuristic, the appearance of this robot follows the character of a real dog complete with four legs. 

The SPUR is undeniably a killer dog robot, because the SPUR is equipped with a 6.5mm Creedmoor machine gun. And there is the latest news, that Ghost Robotics as the developer of SPUR, has tested its ability to operate in conjunction with Australian infantry troops.

Quoted from Janes.com (19/8/2022), the robot dog from Ghost Robotics supports Australian Army soldiers in clearing enemy positions during an autonomous system display at the Majura Training Area, Canberra. 

The Australian military in this regard is promoting the further development of such systems through a new strategy issued in August 2022 through robotics and autonomous systems (RAS) capabilities.

The strategy, put forward by the Australian Army's Robotic and Autonomous Systems Implementation & Coordination Office (RICO), is intended to allow troops to "obtain an operational advantage" on the battlefield. “The increased use of RAS will continue to improve the way troops train and fight – enabling increased tempo, decision making and reduced risk,” said Australian Army Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Simon Stuart.

"In turn, this will provide commanders with new opportunities to achieve a competitive advantage in some of the most dangerous tasks in tomorrow's operating environment," Stuart added. The strategy says RAS capabilities will increase troop situational awareness, survivability, and lethality through “high-speed analysis and distribution of information.”

It said soldiers would apply the technology in five areas – Maximizing army performance; better decision making; take advantage of human-machine cooperation; troop protection; and efficiency in logistics and maintenance.

Ghost Robotics says that the SPUR is capable of firing with precision up to 1,200 meters away. This unmanned system already displays the impressive stabilization capabilities of its four-legged design.

"When our robot moves and you push it, this force is calculated at 2,000 calculations per second per foot," said Jiren Parikh, CEO and founder of Ghost Robotics. He adds that the system is designed to work to ensure it can continue to function, even if various onboard sensors that can be used to assist with movement fail while working.
