Bayraktar Akinci Drone Successfully Flying With Weapon Payload At Nine Hardpoints


Baykar Technologies continues to complete trials on the Bayraktar Akinci two-engine (propeller) combatant drone. After successfully carrying out a flight test with a maximum payload on July 9, 2021, Akinci carried a NEB aircraft bomb that weighs 870 kg and another payload with a total of 1,360 kg, flying for 13 hours 24 minutes. 


Now there is the latest news from Baykar Technologies, which states that Akinci has completed the flight test phase by carrying all weapons on the pylon or hardpoint.

On Baykar's official Twitter account @BaykatTech, the company posted a video showing Akinci B making a flight with nine armed payload stations. This drone is capable of flying with multiple ammunition. 

The short video shows Akinci carrying locally designed Teber-82 ammunition and MAM-T mini ammunition, as well as MAM-L and MAM-C mini ammunition at the multiple launcher station and HGK-82 at the medium weapon station.

The Akinci drone was tested with the Teber-82 guidance kit manufactured by Roketsan, a Turkish defense company. Roketsan manufactures MAM (laser-guided smart micro munitions), laser-guided systems for armed drones, light attack aircraft and combat aircraft. The MAM-C is the high-explosive munitions variant, while the MAM-L is the thermobaric variant. The newest member of the Roketsan Smart Micro Munition (MAM) product family is the long-range variant known as the MAM-T.

While the HGK-82 is a GPS/INS guidance kit that turns the MK82 general-purpose bomb into an air-to-surface smart bomb weapon. HGK-82 was developed by the Defense Industry Research and Development Institute of the Türkiye Scientific and Technological Research Council (TÜBITAK).

During this latest test flight, the Akinci drone carried three Teber-82s, one HGK-82, two MAM-L, MAM-C and MAM-T. The overall weight of the payload during the test flight was about 1,230 kilograms. Furthermore, work on the integration of new weapons for Akinci is still ongoing.



Meanwhile, on August 24, 2022, Ismail Demir, head of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), announced that the Turkish Air Force had received three Akinci combatant drones. Due to the large number of orders being handled, Baykar recently revealed that it can produce 20 drones every month and has a three-year backlog. 

The company is currently in the process of building a new facility in Ukraine, specifically to produce the Bayraktar TB2 combatant drone. The Akinci, which refers to “Raider” in Turkish, is a HALE (High Altitude Long Endurance) qualified drone. 


This drone can carry out air-to-ground and air-to-air operations. Akinci is 12.2 meters long, 4.1 meters high, and has a wingspan of 20 meters. Its takeoff weight is 5,500 kilograms, with a maximum payload of 1,350 kilograms, and can fly at an altitude of 40,000 feet (12,192 meters).

The drone is equipped with an electro-optic/infrared/laser designation (EO/IR/LD) sensor, a multi-mode active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, and a signal intelligence system (SIGINT). Akinci drones collect and process data from sensors and onboard cameras using powerful artificial intelligence features.
