Hawk T1 Red Arrows Aerobatic Team Hit by Bird Strike, Glass Canopy Broken!

Bird strike aka bird strike is back in action with victims in the form of fighter jets, where a Hawk T1 trainer jet from the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows aerobatics team, was forced to make an emergency landing on Sunday (28/8/2022) after colliding with a birds during the air show at the Rhyl Air Show 2022, this incident shattered the plane's canopy windshield.

Quoted from airlive.net, the cracked cockpit canopy is clearly visible in the circulating photos, which were taken when the plane landed at Hawaden Airport in Wales. The pilot had flown the plane at the Rhyl Air Show over the weekend, but was forced to "cut off" the aerial display by a few minutes. Dramatic photos show a large hole in the windshield above the pilot's head as the plane lands.

The plane that fell victim to the bird strike was code red 6 and returned to Hawarden under “emergency squawk transponder code 7700” – which means emergency. David Montenegro, the officer in charge of the Red Arrows Aerobatic Team said: "Steve (Ogston), the pilot of the Red 6, was a little shaken but fine."

Seven Hawk T1 Red Arrows jets left the airport at 4.30pm for their second appearance of the weekend. The team was due to return at 5:10 p.m., but just after 4:45 p.m., Red 6 issued an emergency transponder code.

As a legendary trainer aircraft, the Hawk family is known for the comfort and safety of its pilots. Hawk is very suitable for introduction to basic training in fighter jets. The swept wing design adds flexibility in maneuvering in the air.

To support safety, the aircraft is equipped with a Martin Baker MK.10 zero rocket boosted ejection seat, and can be used while the aircraft is still on the runway. The canopy is equipped with a Miniature Detonating Cord (MDC) as a canopy breaker, making the rescue process more perfect.
