Thales And Kongsberg Launch StrikeMaster Coastal Defense System

After showing the prototype a few months ago, now the StrikeMaster, the Bushmaster rantis variant with the NSM (Naval Strike Missile) anti-ship missile launcher, has been officially launched by Thales Australia and Kongsberg Defense Australia at the Land Forces 2022 event (4-6 October) International Defense Exhibition in Brisbane.

The StikeMaster is nothing but a land-based anti-ship missile launcher for NSM missiles. Both Thales and Kongsberg claim that the StrikeMaster will provide an option for Australian armed forces with increased combat power that can be deployed in line with Australia's defense strategy which emphasizes mobility to engage targets at sea and land.

The StrikeMaster Costal Defense System adopts the Bushmaster MR6 4×4 chassis, which has been known to be a proven rantis with Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) capabilities through the V-Hull design, which can divert energy from landmine and IED explosions.

The StrikeMaster is a modified Bushmaster rantis on the rear, which provides a mount for mounting twin pack launchers for two NSM missiles. 

The emergence of the StrikeMaster design is certainly based on a need, namely to win a tender in the Land 4100 Phase 2 land based anti ship missile (ASM) requirement released by the Australian Department of Defense.

Kongsberg noted that the main advantage of this system is not only the attack range and autonomous capabilities of the NSM, but also offers flexibility in terms of transportation and logistics. 

For example, given its relatively small size, the StrikeMaster can be quickly deployed where it is needed most with a C-130 Hercules-class transport aircraft.

For the NSM missile, it is capable of shooting at high subsonic speeds to attack targets as far as 185 km. In the terminal phase, this missile goes by sea skimming mode.

As a guidance system, this missile relies on a combination of Inertial, GPS, terrain-reference navigation, imaging infrared homing and a target database. The NSM missile weighs 410 kg, is 3.95 meters long and can carry a 125 kg HE blast fragmentation warhead.
