Not long after the Ukrainian drone attack that targeted the Port of Sevastopol (30/10/2022), which is known as the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet, apparently there was a 'retaliation' from Russia using a kamikaze (loitering munition) drone.
Even the Russian kamikaze drone strike is monumental, as it is said to be the first verified attack kamikaze drone capable of striking effectively on surface ship targets.
On November 4, 2022, Russian news agency Ria Novosty released a short video on its Telegram channel showing the Russian military attacking a Ukrainian Gyruza-M-class patrol boat with a Lancet (Lantset) kamikaze drone.
As seen in the video footage, it appears that the Ukrainian patrol boat is not moving, and the engine appears to be in a stopped state, then the Lancet drone hits the ship from the stern. While the location of the drone strike has not been officially confirmed by either side.
Twitter user @Capt_Navy who is a former officer in the Russian Navy, claimed that the incident took place in the waters of the Kakhovsky Reservoir (on the Dnieper River).
The Lancet is a production of Zala Aero, a subsidiary of Kalashnikov Concern, consisting of two drones called the Lantset (Lance)-1 and Lantset-3. As the largest variant, the Lantset-3 is designed to fly with an endurance of 40 minutes. With a mini propeller engine, the Lantset-3 can accelerate at a speed of 110 km per hour. Weighing around 12 kg, the Lantset-3 is equipped with a 3 kg warhead. Like missiles and smart bombs, the Lantset-3 is also equipped with a proximity fuse.
As a sensing system, the Lantset-3 is supported by an optical-electronic guidance unit, besides of course the drone can be programmed before launching. On the muzzle of the drone is a TV guidance unit that allows the operator to see the final stages of the flight phase.
Then the Lantset-1 was said to have a design similar to the Lantset-3 but with smaller sizes and dimensions. The Lantset-1 has a maximum weight of 5 kg and includes a 1 kg warhead. Also powered by a propeller engine, the Lantset-1 can fly for 30 minutes.
Both the Lantset-1 and Lantset-3 are designed to be fitted with high-explosive (HE) or HE-fragmentation warheads.
